Take a look through some of the club’s interesting history, in chronological order:
- Belmont Services Bowls Club was formed on 26th November 1963. The original lease with Brisbane City Council was for 20 years.
- The Ladies Club was formed and the first clubhouse was completed in 1965.
- Official opening of the clubhouse extensions took place in September 1971.
- At the AGM in 1971, Brian Stacey was elected as the club’s first life member.
- A cold room was installed in the kitchen in 1973, a major development for the clubhouse greatly benefiting catering activities.
- Club membership surpassed the 300 mark in 1980.
- Keith Gilchrist was elected a Life Member in 1985.
- Club members – Bill Bowler, Barry Robinson and Danny Roots – were elected Life Members at the 1986 AGM.
- Junior bowlers (under 18) were accepted into the Club as Attachees in 1990.
- Sponsored Men’s Fours tournament (monthly) commenced in 1990.
- Club member Terry Kinrade was elected a Life Member at the 1990 AGM.
- The club’s first personal computer with support equipment and six software modules was purchased in 1992 for $26,541.
- Management Committee established a club policy for making donations in 1993. The club’s first donation was made to Carina Meals of Wheels for the purchase of two new stoves.
- A major refurbishment of the Club’s interior was undertaken in 1998. It included air-conditioning in the hall and bar/lounge,a new cold room and a state-of-the-art beer reticulation system.
- Club member Gerry Rowan was elected as a Life Member at the 2003 AGM.
- The club renewed its lease on the site with Brisbane City Council for 10 years in 2005.
- The Volunteers Appreciation Function in December each year was introduced in 2006.
- It was decided at the 2007 AGM to name the club’s bar “The Stacey Bar” to acknowledge the great service to the club over many years by Brian Stacey and his wife Dawn.
- Club member David Hayden was elected as a life member at the 2007 AGM.
- Club members – Geoff Mackay, noel Shelley and Keith Walker were elected as Life Members at the 2008 AGM.
- Sandy Mutton appointed in 2010 as the house supervisor / events manager.
- Club members – Robert Hodge at Bob Simpson were elected Life Members at the 2013 AGM.
